Course Objectives To give an insight of modern Europe’s history of international relations, armed conflicts and policies of defence in the last Half-Millennium
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • explain the origins and reasons of the military and naval rise of Europe at the start of the Modern Ages.
  • explain the rises and falls of the European great powers in the history of international relations through a cyclical system.
  • analyze the financial, military and diplomatic “revolutions” in the history of international relations.
  • explain the reasons of the failure of the League of Nations in the interwar period and the origins of WW II.
  • analyse the European “Great War” and the peace treaties ending it.
  • identify the origins and the phases of the “Cold War” in the post-WW II Europe
  • comprehend the end of the Cold War and the new unipolar world system
Course Description Diplomatic and military history of the “early modern” and “modern”-era Europe focuses on states, societies, politics, decision-makers and their interactions and conflicts throughout the last Half-Millennium. It is the study of international relations and armed conflicts between states or across state boundaries and is one of the most important forms of history. European Diplomatic and Military History” classes cover the 1492-2001 period in the history of international relations.
